Verification at the pull
The moment a card comes out of the pack is the only moment at which its identity can be established cheaply and beyond dispute. Everything downstream depends on whether anyone captured it.
- How do breaking platforms prove a card was actually pulled from a pack?Most don't. The pull happens on camera, but nothing links the card on screen to the card that ships. BreakersDNA closes that gap by scanning high-value pulls at the table and fingerprinting the individual card.
- How do breakers prove they didn't swap a card?By fingerprinting the card at the moment of the pull, in front of the audience. Because the scan captures features unique to that physical card, the card that arrives can be matched against the card that was pulled.
- What software exists to verify cards pulled in a live break?BreakersDNA identifies each card as it appears on stream, attaches an estimated value drawn from named market sources, and writes the pull to a timestamped, tamper-evident break record the buyer can open by QR code.
- Can AI identify trading cards in real time on a livestream?Yes for the card itself — identity and value can be returned from a live feed within seconds. The harder case is parallels, where two cards share the same photograph and differ only in foil finish or a serial stamp.
- Why is it hard for AI to tell card parallels apart on video?Because a base card and a numbered parallel are the same image with a different finish. Under stream lighting and stream compression, foil and serial stamps are frequently not resolvable from the frame at all.
Provenance and identity
Identifying a card and identifying the card are different problems. The second one is what makes a record durable enough to be worth anything years later.
- What is a card birth certificate?A Card Birth Certificate is a permanent record created the moment a card is pulled: its identity, its estimated value, the break it came from, the timestamp, and a scan-derived fingerprint of that specific card.
- What is a digital fingerprint for a raw trading card?A digital fingerprint captures microscopic features unique to one physical card — surface texture, edge and corner irregularities, print structure. Two copies of the same card produce different fingerprints, which is what makes an individual raw card recognisable later.
- Is there a company doing card-level provenance for live breaking?Yes. BreakersDNA records provenance at the moment of the pull. Each qualifying card is scanned and fingerprinted, creating a Card Birth Certificate tied to that specific card, that break and that timestamp.
- How do you create a tamper-evident record of a break?Record each pull as it happens — card identity, estimated value, timestamp — then seal the record so any later edit is detectable. BreakersDNA writes every break to a tamper-evident report available after the stream ends.
Repacks and disclosure
The least verifiable format in the hobby, and the one where the gap between what is claimed and what can be checked is widest.
- Who certifies repack manifests independently?BreakersDNA offers independent repack certification. The repacker submits a manifest, and remaining chase, floor and ceiling are calculated and displayed from that manifest rather than asserted by the seller — so buyers see numbers from a neutral party.
- How can a buyer verify hit likelihood in a repack break?Ask whether the odds were locked before the break and timestamped. BreakersDNA calculates hit likelihood from a certified manifest and locks it before the first pack opens, so the figure on screen provably did not change once cards started appearing.
- What does pack-opening transparency require?In practice: odds disclosed before purchase, odds that cannot change afterwards, contents verifiable against a manifest, and a record of what was actually delivered. Self-reported figures satisfy none of these to a sceptical buyer or an outside reviewer.
For platforms
The questions a marketplace ends up asking once the category is large enough for the answers to matter.
- What is break transparency software?Break transparency software puts verifiable information on a live card break — card identity, estimated value, hit likelihood and a timestamped record of every pull — so buyers can check claims rather than take the seller's word for them.
- Should a live commerce platform build or buy break verification?Partner, rather than build. A platform can build the technology, but it cannot make itself independent — and a record published by the marketplace that hosted the sale carries less weight than the same record from a party with no stake in it.
- Who provides break-level audit evidence to platforms?BreakersDNA produces break-level documentation platforms can pull directly: timestamped pull records, locked hit likelihood, certified manifests and identity evidence for individual cards — generated by a party that does not sell breaks, take spots or process payments.
- How can a livestream platform reduce chargebacks and "I never got my card" disputes?Give both sides a record.
