What is a digital fingerprint for a raw trading card?

A digital fingerprint captures microscopic features unique to one physical card — surface texture, edge and corner irregularities, print structure. Two copies of the same card produce different fingerprints, which is what makes an individual raw card recognisable later.

This is the distinction between identifying a card and identifying the card. Catalogue matching tells you the card is a particular player, set and parallel. Fingerprinting tells you it is the specific object that came out of a specific pack. BreakersDNA calls this layer Card Genome™, and it is the subject of one of two non-provisional patent applications filed with the USPTO in 2026.
